The Settler
The European endorses Sony Vegas Pro 9
In this short video, we present the heroic/pathetic figure of The Settler as he wanders, lost and conflicted, through the jagged ruins of Modernism, in search of some dimensional portal to the happy hunting grounds of the post-historic era.
The Settler is the new single by THE EUROPEAN. Released March 2010 by Stolen Recordings.
Directed by Simon Break.
Photography and lighting by Coco Asper Valdes and Paul Jones.

Imminent
The means of production
Phase One is approaching completion.
Firstly, the album launch party has been scheduled for 22nd February (Edit: rescheduled to 23rd February) at The Stags Head in Hoxton, London. Support acts are being arranged and will be announced here as soon as they are confirmed.
Secondly, the physical records are being manufactured this week. This is a complex process using advanced mastering techniques and bleeding-edge print technology to bring you, the consumer, a product of unparalleled quality expressing the strong brand values of THE EUROPEAN.

File Under Evil
Guilt by association
From Heidegger, Hitler's 'spiritual guide' on The Guardian newspaper's discussion board Comment is free:
He calls for [Heidegger's] books to be removed from the shelves of philosophy departments and rehoused under the history of Nazism. This is eminently sane.
From Tag (metadata) on Wikipedia:
In a traditional hierarchical system (taxonomy), the designer sets out a limited number of terms to use for classification, and there is one correct way to classify each item. In a tagging system, there are an unlimited number of ways to classify an item, and there is no "wrong" choice. Instead of belonging to one category, an item may have several different tags.
Beyond Good and Evil
Arguments about morality are arguments about filing. Books must be filed on a specific shelf. Computers can file anything under anything else. Therefore shelves are moral and computers are amoral.
From List of Dewey Decimal classes on Wikipedia:
216: No longer used -- formerly Evil

Venn Diagram For The World
Mathew Sawyer of Mathew Sawyer and The Ghosts posted this Venn diagram on his blog Woozy Machine.
THE EUROPEAN has played with The Ghosts on many occasions and can confirm that he is a pleasure to work with, a true artist with a professional attitude, creating a top-quality product.
This is a very important and perceptive piece. Mathew Sawyer is a genius and you would do well to study his work carefully.

Open For Comment
We can only hope
If you look over to the right you will see that I AM THE EUROPEAN DOT COM now has a comment facility.
You may find it odd that anybody would make a big deal about having comments on their website in 2010, however please keep in mind that in the spirit of doing things the hard way (a point of faith for THE EUROPEAN) this entire site is coded by hand by our wonderful webmaster Matthew.
He would like those who are interested in such things to know that it is written in Python running on top of the Google App Engine and is terse, efficient, accessible and standards-compliant.
Anyway, please feel free to express your iconoclastic opinions, puncture pretension with your down-to-earth common sense and pithy wit, tell people they don't know what they're talking about and maybe even compare something to Hitler.

Break? Snap!
I just must say that I truly love your music. My friends and I must have watched The Settler about 10 times within the last 24 hours. And the video from 'I'm Not Getting What I Want From You' is really quirky; love the grooves!
As a socialist myself, I'm concerned about the implication of you losing your views, or am I taking this all too literally? I know you have artist licence.
I must ask: will there be a release date for 'Walking in the Air' on vinyl? Are you planning on any other covers? I would love some more dark adaptations of nostalgic classics; I mean really I'd like 'Nothing Compares to You' by Sinead O'Conner. That'd be cool.
Thanks for being there Simon.
...or should I say THE EUROPEAN?

Lori - Thanks very much. Also, we're going to fix this website so it doesn't display your whole email address.
Mark - Apologies. Will sort that out pronto, things are somewhat hectic at the moment.
Char - Thanks very much for alerting us to this mistake. Digital distribution For The Fail. Heads will roll!

So is the album in the wrong order or named wrongly on itunes?
The track I thought was called 'The Settler' appears as 'Theme From New Fun'.
Makes no difference to me, thought you'd like to know. I'd think I was wrong but The Settler has one of those Explicit lyrics tags despite being an instrumental and its a different length to the video.
I bought it anyway.
